Golden Age Cinema and Bar

Golden Age Cinema and Bar is one of my favourite cinemas in Sydney, creating such a wonderfully cosy and warm atmosphere in the Late-Deco style. Sitting by candlelight, sipping classic cocktails at the bar, sharing delicious charcuterie, listening to tunes from the DJ or live act and munching away at a Gelato Messina choc-top once you’re nestled into your seat in the little cinema… is there a more perfect way to spend a winters night? After two splendid nights here, I can tell you that no, there is not!

Golden Age show such a great variety of films, from classic to cult. Think Breakfast at Tiffany’s, The Shining and The Godfather, to the best of Hollywood’s new releases. Whichever genre takes your fancy, you’ll be sure to have a wonderful night!

Be sure to order a cocktail, my choice is always the Charlie Chaplain (Plymouth Sloe Gin, Apricot Brandy and Lime Juice), but let the excellent bartenders know what kind of flavours you like and they’ll recommend the perfect drink.

For food, I really enjoy the spiced nuts and, of course, the cheese plate. But the cocktail popcorn (served up in a cocktail shaker) and toasties are very popular. Needless to say the Gelato Messina choc-tops and sundaes are a winner!

If you’d prefer to head out for dinner beforehand, you really are in the perfect spot for some of Sydney’s best restaurants – Longrain, Spice I Am, El Loco and NOMAD to name just a few. After your movie, definitely hit up one of the local bars (Tio’s) or pubs (The Hollywood Hotel).

So throw on your best frock, soak up the Mad Men-esque atmosphere and be sure to sample some of the incredible food and drinks! X
