A trip to Hobart is not complete without breakfast at Jackman & McRoss. Nestled in the gorgeous area of Battery Point, this bakery/cafe serves up the most divine pastries, breads, cakes, tarts and breakfast specials! Every item is freshly made, straight out of the oven, so the delectable smell from the kitchen wafts down the nearby streets, luring you in…
I come here for breakfast most days when I am down in Hobart, and deciding what to order never gets easier! Everything is always sensational, as the quality of their ingredients is just superb. However, being in Tassie, I generally opt for anything involving salmon or berries, depending on whether I’m feeling savoury or sweet. And of course I grab a coffee! Their coffee is great, always nice and hot with a robust flavour.
Last time I was here, I had the Scrambled Eggs wrapped with Smoked Salmon on Danish Pastry for breakfast – an utterly generous serving of fresh, crisp pastry, topped with deliciously smooth and creamy scrambled eggs and thin layers of Tassie’s finest smoked salmon, gently warmed from the heat of the eggs. I savoured every last mouthful, astonished at how tasty and delicate this dish was. As tempting as the sweet pastries were, the serving of the eggs was so huge I could hardly eat lunch! So I’d definitely recommend sharing so that you don’t miss out on trying their famed eclairs, tarts, buns or cakes.
So if you’re visiting Hobart, why not start the day nice and early at Jackman & McRoss to guarantee a table, then follow down Kelly Street until you pop out at Salamanca Place. Either venture around the city or catch the ferry over to MONA! X
