Felix, Sydney

Felix is a classic French-style bistro, nestled in the laneways of Sydney’s CBD. It is incredible how well the Merivale group have managed to create such a convincing replica of a classic French brasserie, that really does make you think twice what continent you’re on. The French chandeliers, fringed lamps, Parisian subway tiles, the long-stretched bar, piles of freshly chucked oysters, champagne bottles sitting on ice, and a wine cellar you’ll be dreaming about for days, create such a wonderful atmosphere that is only outdone by the food itself!

The food at Felix in sensational. The oysters are always of such a high quality, so they are wonderful to share with your table as an entree with a class of champagne or a crisp white. The sautéed herb gnocchi with portobello mushrooms, butternut pumpkin, goat’s curd pinenut and sage is one of the best vegetarian meals I have had; the gnocchi completely melts in your mouth and each element compliments each other so well. This is quite a rich dish though!

For mains, well you are a bit spoilt for choice! I can definitely recommend the rotisserie spatchcock, steak frites, the seafood dishes and the duck confit. My brother orders the steak frites every time as he claims it’s one of the best steaks he has ever had! Remember to order a few sides, as they help lighten the meal and are also delicious themselves! I always enjoy the green beans, salad or cauliflower.

Dessert for me is an easy choice – cheese! Felix always have a diverse and delicious selection of cheeses that really shouldn’t be missed if you share my passion… But if you feel like you need something sweet and refreshing to finish your meal, then the passionfruit souffle with coconut sorbet might be a better choice! The souffles are very popular for dessert, so be sure to look into the kitchen and watch the dessert chef preparing the souffles in their little copper pots at lightening speed!

It really is such a spectacle at Felix – the combination of the decor, food, French-speaking long-aproned waiters, the music and the excellent wine (recommended by the lovely sommelier) will leave you in awe.

I hope you love your meal at Felix as much as I always do, and take note that they have a daily Prix Fixe Menu 5.30-6.30pm where you can order 2 courses for $45 or 3 courses for $55!

Why not take a stroll around the city after your meal, maybe down to Circular Quay? Or cosy up in one of the nearby bars like The Baxter Inn or Frankies? X
