Market Lane is one of my favourite cafes in Sydney, mainly because it is a local favourite of my Mum and I’s where I have great memories of coffees and breakfasts after morning walks along the Manly beachfront. Locals love this place, mainly the cyclists, runners, walkers and yogies who love to refuel after a workout.
Definitely come here for breakfast! The earlier the better, as it gets quite busy. Aim for >7.30am. Otherwise, you might have to wait a little while for a table, otherwise could just come by for a coffee and freshly baked muffin, cookie or raw power ball (But it’s worth being patient and waiting!).
The poached eggs are always cooked to oozy perfection, and a favourite of mine is the poached eggs with haloumi, avocado, asparagus, preserved lemon, rocket & buttered sourdough toast OR the poached eggs with goats cheese, asparagus, tomato, balsamic, microherbs, olives & buttered sourdough toast. If you are savoury inclined, opt for these or the scrumptious mushrooms on toast! They are truly divine, as the beautiful organic ingredients and artisan Brasserie bread they use are so delicious.
If you’re more of a sweet tooth, the fruit toast served with ricotta, banana and cinnamon (and if you’re lucky seasonal figs!) is just delicious. Otherwise the Sonoma granola with yogurt and fresh fruit is fantastic!
My beverage of choice is either an iced long black or a hot long black with a side of hot milk, both of which are always spot on. The All Press coffee is a really wonderful blend. Alternatively you could go for one of their smoothies or a pot of chai!
So, basically I would recommend just about everything at Market Lane! It’s a wonderful local cafe with friendly staff that welcome you with a big smile, provide quick service and keep the menu seasonal and exciting. Sit outside in the sunshine and join in on our laid-back Manly lifestyle. Pop over to the Saltmotion gallery across the road to view some beautiful beach photography and check out the Manly Fresh Food Markets if you’re there on a Wednesday or Sunday (8.30-2)!
Hope you make it there, enjoy! x
